TRANSLATION from French (source) to English (target)

Translation deals with written words only and is not to be confused with interpretation, which deals with spoken words.
Translation work involves knowing not just the structure of the language to be translated, but the cultural framework that surrounds it. It requires understanding of the document on both a word-for-word and a conceptual level, so that its meaning may be conveyed in the target language, in a natural and idiomatic style that is free of spelling and grammatical errors.
A good translation should read as though it was written directly in the target language.

Types of documents: Web sites, press releases, newsletters, press articles, special features and supplements, press packs and sales brochures, short stories, biographical accounts, advertorials, market studies, mission reports, business proposals, RFP, presentations, specialised articles, process and quality manuals, training manuals, user guides, installation manuals, general correspondence, and more...

Some fields I have worked in: Humanitarian, environment and climate, sustainable development, human rights, land use planning and conservation, tourism, cosmetics, art, swimwear and lingerie, fashion & textiles, marketing, trade press, logistics, supply chain, transportation and networks, information systems, warehousing, entertainment, quality management, optical, IT, new technologies, and more...

PROOFREADING of documents in English
Proofreading means reading a copy of a text in order to detect and correct any errors. These may be spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting, or stylistic errors. In translation, proofreading usually involves comparing the target text with the original source text in order to ensure that it is free of misinterpretations and mistranslations. The client will decide how thoroughly a text is to be checked.

LOCALISATION
Localisation is the term used when a product is introduced to another country. It is not simply a case of translating instructions and text on packaging into the language of the intended country; it is a way of marketing the product to the target audience of the country. Localisation integrates the product into the both the language and the culture of the intended country. (source: www.wisegeek.com)
The term "localisation" is widely used when referring to website or video game translation.

EDITING AND REWRITING
I am occasionally asked to rework texts written or translated by others.

LIAISON INTERPRETING
A liaison interpreter provides a link between two or up to approximately four people who speak different languages. The interpreter needs to know both languages very well and interprets what each person says, in either language as appropriate.
This type of interpreting is suitable for small business meetings, social outings, witness interviews, and overseas trips, for example.

VOICE-OVER
Need a voice for an audio training course, an on-hold message, or a corporate presentation film, for example? You want your message to be bilingual with the same voice in both languages? If you supply the location, technology, and technical know-how, I can provide the voice.
